Harvest Meal Plan

On this page is a list of what will be served, including recipes and preparation plans. We get an idea of division of labour, and we will make sure we will have the equipment. At the bottom of the page, we will list what equipment we have, and who is bringing it. If you can bring something, put your name at the bottom, along with what you are bringing.

Grilled Beans and Carrots and Spinach

Pull the strings out of the beans. Chop the beans and carrots, and put them in salted boiling water for a short time. Then put them in cold water to stop the cooking. After that, grill the beans in a pan with chicken broth and chopped shallots with butter.

New Zealand Spinach also blanched in hot water

Chop an serve as a garnish with a tiny bit of olive oil and salt.

Planning Discussion (Including Timelines and Distribution of Labour)

Firstly, we will need to have water boiling, which we will use for several tasks, including the cooking of the potatoes. The steaks will be cooked near the end, as they won't take long. The vegetables will need to be chopped early, with the potatoes chopped first. It is important to get the garlic roasting early as well.

Day Before Activities (All done wednesday after school)
Pick parsley
Make chimichurri sauce
Marinate meat in chimichurri sauce
Clean garlic

Early Activities:
Boil water and pre-heat oven
harvest carrots, beans, and spinach
retrieve 8 acceptable bulbs garlic, cut off stems, peal off dirty outer layers, cut off top in preparation for roasting
wash all vegetables
pour oil over garlic and begin roasting
chop potatoes
chop beans
chop carrots
chop onions

In the meantime, get the potatoes boiling. Then pull them out and start frying them.

After the potatoes are going, start using the water to blanche the chopped vegetables (which means dumping them into the water for a short time and then scooping them out with a slotted spoon and putting them in cold water). This can be one person's job. Another person can remove them from the cold water and put them in another bowl, waiting to be fried.
